Reminiscences of Student Life - Fifty Years On

A special student reunion is taking place in Bath of former students from the then Bath College of Domestic Science.
On Thursday 8 September 33 former students from the 'class of 1961' are gathering to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of their student days. Now part of Bath Spa University, the Bath College of Domestic Science was an important part of the higher education provision in Bath, with annual intakes of around 90 students - some from overseas - training to become teachers of domestic science.
Reunion organiser Diana Clarke is looking forward to sharing reminiscences of their time in Bath, of looking back on old photos to jog their memories, and of comparing and contrasting their experiences as students with those of their grandchildren.
Diana's group was based in the new Sion Hill building (now home to the Bath School of Art and Design), opened the previous year by the late Queen Mother who commented at the time: "As I look upon these potential teachers, one reflection occurs to me. I think it not unlikely that before they have had much opportunity of teaching domestic science to others, they may be busily applying it in their own homes, and it would be difficult, I think, to criticise husbands who have determined this choice."
