President's Message

Dear Fellow Alumni

I am honoured and privileged to serve as your Bath Spa University Alumni Association President.

Mary Berry (right)The Association has been established to bring together former students of the constituent colleges which, since 1852, have led to what the University is today.

In 1852 the Bath School of Art was founded and in 1946 the Bath Teacher Training College was opened on the Newton Park campus. The present institution was formed in 1975 as the Bath College of Higher Education through the merger of the Bath Teacher Training College and Bath College of Domestic Science. In 1983 the Bath Academy of Art also merged with the college. In 1992, the college was granted degree-awarding powers and in 1997 adopted the name Bath Spa University College. In March 2005 the institution was granted university status, becoming Bath Spa University in August 2005.

I myself am a former student of the Bath College of Domestic Science and more recently as a recipient of an honorary doctorate from Bath Spa University.

I hold dear to my heart the time I spent studying at the college and value the skills and experience that have helped the success of my own career. I would encourage all graduates to reflect on your time at university and to harness your own acquired knowledge to the benefit of your future careers. Do not forget the support and advice available to you from the University’s careers service, all of which can help you in obtaining your first job after graduation.

It is said that many of the friendships you make at university can last a lifetime. We hope that through becoming a member of the Alumni Association we can help you stay in touch with your fellow classmates.

The Association is here for you and as such we invite you to tell us what you would like from the University. You can contact the team by emailing alumni@bathspa.ac.uk

With best wishes

Mary Berry CBE DLitt
