Travel by Car

Due to limited parking at our campuses, Bath Spa University encourages people to use public transport whenever possible.  If, however, you do need to travel by car, please follow these directions.

For Newton Park, Sion Hill and Other Campuses in Bath

All vehicles parked on our campuses must display a valid parking permit. Visitors will either be issued a permit in advance, or can collect them from our main campus receptions or from the Newton Park Security Lodge. Failure to display a permit in your vehicle's windscreen may result in your being issued a Parking Contravention Charge. For more information, please refer to our Parking Terms and Conditions.

  • From the M4 motorway, join the A46 southbound at junction 18;
  • After descending the hill into the Avon valley, turn right onto the A4 into Bath;
  • At traffic lights (by A36 turnoff), get into the right hand lane and proceed straight ahead along the A4;
  • Take second exit at mini-roundabout along the A4;
  • At traffic lights (by Lansdown Road turnoff), proceed straight ahead along the A4 George Street;
  • At end of George Street, turn left following the A4 along Gay Street towards Queens Square;
  • For Newton Park campus:
    • Exit Queens Square onto the A4 Queens Square Place / Charlotte Street;
    • At the traffic lights (by A3064 turnoff), get into the right-hand lane and proceed straight ahead along A4 Upper Bristol Road;
    • At the traffic lights (by A431 turnoff), get into the left-hand lane and proceed along A4 Newbridge Road;
    • After crossing the river, turn right at lights onto dual carriageway (A4);
    • Take the second exit at the "Globe Inn" roundabout to join the A39. The campus entrance is immediately on your left;
    • Watch out for bendy busses and pedestrians along the driveway, and use passing bays when necessary. The speed limit is 15mph.
  • For Sion Hill campus:
    • Exit Queens Square onto the A4 Queens Square Place / Charlotte Street;
    • When you reach the Vauxhall garage, turn right onto Marlborough Lane (signposted "Bath Spa University");
    • At the cross-roads junction, cross straight over onto Cavendish Road and climb hill;
    • At the cross-roads junction, turn left onto Sion Hill.
    • Take the first right onto Sion Hill Place. The campus entrance is immediately on your right;
  • For Bath Community Academy (Culverhay campus) and Southdown School:
    • Exit Queens Square onto the A367 Chapel Row and proceed down Charles Street;
    • At the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill, get into the left-hand lane and proceed straight ahead along Green Park Road;
    • Follow the line of the river, then turn left onto Avon Street and immediately right onto Corn Street;
    • Turn right onto Saint James Parade and get into the right-hand lane;
    • Take the next left after the bus station to cross the river;
    • Turn onto the roundabout under the railway arches and take the second exit onto the A367 Wells Road;
    • Continue up the A367 for 2 miles until you reach the "Red Lion" roundabout (by A3062 turnoff);
    • Take the third exit onto Frome Road;
    • At the next roundabout, take the third exit onto Rush Hill;
    • After 200 meters, Bath Community Academy is on your left (Only enter the gate marked "Bath Spa University").
    • Alternatively, Southdown School is a short distance furether on, turning right.

For Corsham Court Campus

From The M4 Motorway

  • From the M4 motorway, join the A350 southbound at junction 17;
  • After 2.6 miles, at the roundabout, take the second exit onto the A350 Cepen Way and continue to follow the A350;
  • At the third roundabout (Bumpers' Farm Roundabout), take the third exit and continue to follow the A350 following the signs for Bath;
  • At the second roundabout, take the third exit onto onto the A4 Bath Road following the signs for Bath;
  • After 3 miles proceed straight ahead at the traffic lights to the next mini roundabout;
  • Turn left at the mini roundabout (adjacent to Hare and Hounds Public House);
  • Follow signs towards town centre;
  • At the second mini roundabout, take the first exit left onto Newlands Road;
  • At the next mini roundabout, take the second exit right onto Post Office Lane (just past the Co-op store);
  • Follow the road around to the left and onto the High Street and follow parking instructions below.

From Bath

  • Take A4 towards Corsham / Chippenham;
  • Upon entering Corsham, take second exit at roundabout onto B3353 Pickwick Road;
  • Follow signs towards town centre;
  • At second roundabout, take the first exit left onto Newlands Road;
  • At next roundabout, take the second exit right onto Post Office Lane (just past the Somerfield store);
  • Follow the road around to the left and onto the High Street and follow parking instructions below.

Where to Park Your Car in Corsham

As you turn onto the High Street the Royal Oak public house is approximately 45 meters on the right hand side.  Parking for all visitors and students is located in the car park to the rear (parking permission notice/sign required – available from School Administrators).

Parking Areas

Please note that no parking is available within the grounds of Corsham Court (unless you hold a disabled driver's blue badge) and parking is not permitted in Church Square.

Advice for SatNav Users

It is sometimes the case that the postcode for our Newton Park campus (BA2 9BN) does not provide helpful instructions to users of SatNav systems for the final part of their journey.

We therefore suggest that instead you use the postcode for another local landmark that is very close to the campus - the Globe Inn (on a roundabout at the A4/A39 junction, from which Bath Spa University is clearly marked).  The postcode for the Globe Inn is BA2 9BB.

Campus Speed Limit

Some areas of our campuses do not have footpaths, so please watch out for pedestrians in the road. The on-campus speed limit is 15mph for all vehicles.
