Sustainable procurement is all about taking environmental and social factors into account when we buy products. It's about looking at:
- what goods are made of;
- where they come from;
- who has made them;
- how much energy they use;
- how easy they are to recycle or send for re-use.
It's even looking at whether we need to make the purchase at all.
We have developed a Sustainable Purchasing Guide for staff to help them include environmental criteria in purchasing decisions. The guide covers types of goods we buy the most, or that have the most impact, and sets out what to look for when you buy new items.
