Caring for Our Environment
Universities have an important role in achieving sustainability and helping reduce climate change - a responsibility felt all the more keenly by students and staff at Bath Spa in view of our exceptionally beautiful environment.
We have an environmental policy that gives a commitment to continuous environmental improvement.

EcoCampus
Bath Spa is one of only nine universities participating in the exciting 'EcoCampus' pilot scheme aimed at developing a nationally accredited environmental Award scheme for universities in England. EcoCampus is closely aligned to the international environmental management System Accreditation (ISO 14001), which we are also working towards achieving.
EcoCampus covers all aspects of the University's operations, including waste management; energy and water; transport; emissions and discharges; construction and refurbishment; sustainable purchasing; and community involvement
EcoCampus is a four-stage accreditation process (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) and Bath Spa has achieved Silver level and are now making preparations for the Gold phase.
Living in Halls
There is a comprehensive recycling policy in Newton Park halls of residence run jointly with the Students' Union. All resident students are expected to support this policy and to continue good recycling practice when they move into private rented accommodation in years 2 and 3.
No Use of Animals
Teaching and research at Bath Spa University makes no use of animals other than the observation and monitoring of mammals and birds in their natural habitats for conservation purposes. We always find alternatives to the use of live or dead animals for research.
The Curriculum
Where possible we promote an awareness of the environment and best environmental practice through our courses, which reflect our concern with the natural environment, sustainable development and resource management.
