Official Launch of New Theatre Company

A new Bath-based theatre company is about to launch on the professional scene.

The Ruffled Umbrella Company, formed by graduates of the Performing Arts and Drama Studies courses at Bath Spa University, was one of two performance companies to benefit from a unique one year incubation scheme at the university. Conceived by Senior Lecturer in Performing Arts Emma Gersch, the 'Launchpad' scheme set out to provide invaluable support and mentorship at the critical start-up phases of running a business. For the past year the company has been supported with resources, business skills training and artistic development and is now ready for its official launch on 2 June at Burdall's Yard in Bath (7.30 - 9pm).

During its incubation period Ruffled Umbrella won an international award for 'best show' at the Festival D'Hiver drama festival near Paris. The company specializes in performance and outreach activities, aimed at both corporate and education audiences.

Emma Gersch commented: "I am sure that Ruffled Umbrella has an exciting future in the world of professional theatre. Their talent was evident throughout their undergraduate careers, when they demonstrated their ability to captivate and surround an audience, absorbing them into the world of the play."

Ruffled Umbrella's launch event is an opportunity to find out more about the company as it takes its audience into the world of Shakespeare: guests will be able to enjoy cocktails, canaps, live jazz - and the company's innovative version of excerpts from Hamlet.
