Local poets in the Bristol, Bath and Keynsham area are invited to take part in a free performance poetry workshop, run by Bath Spa University. Come and find out how to make your poetry leap up and surprise people!
Poets who attend a workshop will also have an opportunity to present their poems on stage at the Keynsham Music Festival on Sunday 4 July.
Workshops will be held at The Key Centre, Victoria Methodist Church, Charlton Road, Keynsham on Monday 28 June from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, and Wednesday 30 June from 11am to 1pm. Please contact Arilda Tymko on 01225 876536 to reserve a place.
The workshops will be led by Lucy English, one of the country's top performance poets and a senior lecturer at Bath Spa University. Lucy has appeared at many literature festivals in the UK and worldwide and has toured internationally for the British Council. Her poetry has also been published in a variety of anthologies.
The project is supported by RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy for Arts and Youth Sport), which seeks to engage young people in the South West in sporting and cultural events in the run-up to the London 2012 Games.
Arilda Tymko, RELAYS Cultural Coordinator at Bath Spa University said: "Bath Spa is the only UK University to include a performance poetry specialism in its curriculum. We want to encourage more people to enjoy it and the Keynsham Music Festival is a great platform for local people and students to showcase their talents."
The Keynsham Music Festival will take place on Sunday 4 July 2010 in Keynsham Memorial Park from 12 noon to 9.30pm. The poets will be performing on the Andrews Performance Stage from 4.50pm to 5.15pm. Please see the website for further information: www.keynshammusicfestival.co.uk
