Bath Spa Director to Help Young Film Makers
Nic Jeune, a film director and producer who works at Bath Spa University, will soon be lending his professional expertise to young people in Bristol interested in making films. He has been recruited as a mentor by BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Nic is one of five new BAFTA mentors to work with young people on media projects in the Bristol area. The first project he will support is a scheme run by the Watershed Arts Centre called Short Cuts, which helps 45 teenagers to develop, write, produce and edit a short film.
Nic Jeune is Director of Artswork Media, Bath Spa University's digital media enterprise based at the Paintworks site in Bristol and run by the University's third year broadcast media, creative media and creative writing students.
When not at Bath Spa Nic works for Touch Films in Bath as Creative Director and has held senior positions in more than 50 award-winning film and television drama productions. He is also Film Adviser for Skillset, a national network of universities and colleges working with industry to develop new media talent.
The BAFTA Youth Mentoring Programme, which started in London last year, is now being rolled out in cities across the country. It aims to boost the confidence and career prospects of young people from all backgrounds and give them new media-related skills.
Nic Jeune will be joined as a mentor by other leading film and television practitioners, including actors, directors, producers and scriptwriters.
Nic said: "I am delighted with this new opportunity to pass on my knowledge and experience of the industry to young newcomers facing a really tough struggle to get started in a highly competitive environment."
The Short Cuts project, on which he will be helping, will create three short films of under five minutes, to be premiered at the Watershed in November as part of its Encounters International Short Film Festival.
