Newton Park: View 27

The woods behind the Italian Garden lead to the lakeside walk.

The 2 large specimen conifers at the top end of the lake are Wellingtonia trees (Sequoiadendron giganteum) at the confluence of the Corston Brook and the lake, with a Noble Fir (Abies procera) on the far side of the lake.  Both of these trees were introduced from N. America in the 19th century, Abies procera in 1831 and Sequoiadendron gigantea (from California) in 1853.
