The University Theatre comprises a 186-seat auditorium with full backstage and technical facilities, plus three large teaching studios.
The arrival of the University Theatre represented an important milestone in our development as the leading arts university in the region (we’re one of the largest ten providers of degrees in Music in the country and currently attract over ten applications for every place in Music, Drama and Dance).
The University Theatre is where many of our student performances are staged. It’s used intensively by our student actors, directors, production managers, choreographers, dancers, stage managers and lighting and sound designers.
Together with the Michael Tippett Centre, the University Theatre forms a significant arts complex.
Within the University Theatre building we have light and airy studios with sprung flooring. These have convenient access to the main theatre space, dressing rooms and full technical support. The studios have projection equipment installed and one of them benefits from mirrors.
The University Theatre is used to host a range of student performances including the annual Third Space Dance Degree Shows. We also programme live professional dance performances. Recents professional events have included Ben Duke’s Lost Dog, Riccardo Buscarini, Alexander Whitely, Hagit Yakira, Jean Abreu, Earthfall and more.
