Entry requirements

Develop your expertise as an educational leader with our Teach First leadership development Master's programme.

  • Pursue your passion for education while you gain a critical understanding of the characteristics of effective leadership.
  • Build on your existing PGDE to attain a Master's degree, with studies that fit around your current teaching responsibilities.
  • Learn how to bring about change in your school and improve the wellbeing of the children and young people you teach.

Education offers individuals and communities the very best chance to successfully take control of their future, and the future of the world. This MA in Education Leadership asks you to question, research, analyse and evaluate the challenges facing education and educational leadership in the twenty-first century, whether locally or globally.

Drawing on internationally-based research, and informed by the values and mission of Teach First, MA Educational Leadership at Bath Spa is designed to develop and improve your expertise as an educational leader. This is a 60 credit dissertation module that builds on your existing PGDE to 'top-up' your learning to Master's level.

You'll take a critical and cultural approach to leadership as a socially constructed and ethical practice. You'll also relate theory and research to your own working environment.

What you'll learn

Overview

You'll have already successfully gained 120 credits from your PGDE Award. Building on this award, this 60 credit dissertation module allows you to complete your Master’s degree, to gain an MA in Education Leadership (Teach First).

This programme is open to all Teach First ambassadors who have successfully completed a PGDE.

Course structure

This dissertation module follows on from the topics covered during the PGDE.

You'll be expected to undertake a piece of original research or study, which may be work-based, in an area of interest to you that is closely related to your PGDE Award in Education Leadership (Teach First).

You'll identify ethical issues when undertaking research in the field of education, and work with your fellow participants and supervisor to take your dissertation from initial draft to submission, through self-directed study, open seminars, peer learning workshops, and tutorials with your dissertation supervisor.
