    Entry requirements for our postgraduate courses vary. We are generally looking for a good honours degree or equivalent. Some courses also require an interview or the submission of a portfolio of work.

    • Curate your own curriculum, from a range of exciting modules.

    Benefit from our cross-disciplinary philosophy studying this distinct Liberal Arts course. This programme allows you to construct a postgraduate course around your particular interests, and to sample several different academic fields, before settling on a personal focus in an extended dissertation/ research project.

    Curating your own curriculum is central to the course. You’ll be guided in choosing your route through the programme through discussion with tutors.

    What you'll learn

    Overview

    Through your own unique programme you will:

    • understand and address complex world issues, by bringing knowledge from the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences, into critical conversation;
    • learn how to listen to your own instincts and curiosities;
    • strategically direct your postgraduate development as a person, academic, and potential professional in your chosen field and in the future workplace;
    • be encouraged to engage with our Global Academy of Liberal Arts (GALA).

    Modules

    Core module: Reading the Liberal Arts

    Optional modules chosen from six themes:

    • Philosophical belief systems
    • Research skills, questions, and practices
    • People, leadership, and management
    • Creativity
    • Global and multicultural communities
    • Science and the environment

    Major project

    How will I be assessed?

    You may be assessed in a variety of ways, depending on the modules you choose. This may include:

    • Group/individual presentations
    • Essays
    • Research/project portfolios
    • Extended research papers
    • Social science reports
    • Memoirs
    • Screenplays
    • Novels
    • Digital presentations or other form of academic, or public expression
    • Public group performances

    How will I be taught?

    You may be taught using a variety of methods, including:

    • Lectures
    • Seminars
    • Tutorials
    • Practical workshops

    Opportunities

    Global Academy of Liberal Arts

    You’ll be encouraged to engage with the opportunities offered through the activities and resources of the Global Academy of Liberal Arts (GALA), such as the GALA Outreach Fund which provides funds to enable students and staff to engage with GALA partners around the world.

    You’ll gain transferable skills and develop your personal qualities. We’ll ensure you’re well prepared for employment that requires:

    • the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility;
    • decision-making in complex and unpredictable situations;
    • the independent learning ability required for continuing professional development.
