Health and Social Care Management (Foundation Degree)

This vocationally focused course is aimed at people either working or wishing to develop a career in the health and social care sector.

The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Management is a course aiming to reflect current thinking about good practice in these areas. It is designed to help you identify and extend your skills in health and social care management. To complete this programme you must be employed or be a volunteer, either full or part-time, within the health and social care sector.

The course is delivered in partnership with Norton Radstock College. Students attend the college on one day a week.

Course Structure and Content

The programme is organised around a series of modules, some are college-based while others enable you to learn within the workplace. The work based learning, which is central to the programme, is structured to give you time to reflect on your experiences and develop a coherent portfolio for use in future career development. The modular contents are mapped against elements of Level 4 of the NHS Knowledge and Skills framework and NVQ Level 4 - Care.

Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree will be able to apply to progress (subject to interview) onto an associated 'top-up' degree course BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Management at the Newton Park campus.

Teaching Methods and Resources

The formal teaching tends to be organised on the same day each week to make it easier for students to combine work and study. The course will utilise a range of approaches to teaching and learning including; formal lectures, seminars, group activities, case studies and online activities. You will have the support of a personal tutor throughout your studies.

Visiting speakers from a range of organisations will contribute to the programme and there will be visits to relevant agencies and organisations.

At least once a year a conference will be organised at Newton Park campus to give students from all the colleges the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and information.

Assessment Methods

A variety of assessment methods will be used including essays, presentations, portfolios, diaries and a small number of seen written examinations.

Entry Requirements

Appropriate level 3 qualifications (For example, A-Level or vocational qualifications) and evidence of personal or professional experience of the health and social care sector.

Please be aware that you will be required to complete a new Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure application through Bath Spa University as part of the admissions process for this course.
