Reducing Disruption

This is a major building project and there will inevitably be some disruption. Phase 1 (the Academic Building and relocation of the generator) is centrally located and will therefore have more impact than Phase 2 (Residential Buildings) on the day-to-day lives of students and staff.

While the University is investing in the future, it is also committed to providing the best possible experience for current students, and the best working conditions for staff. There will inevitably be some disruption during the building work – as there has been across many university campuses up and down the country – but this will be carefully managed.

Students and staff will be kept fully informed about what to expect, and reassured about how this disruption will be handled.

Both the University and the contractors being considered to build this development are accustomed to ensuring that ‘business as usual’ may carry on during construction work. Particularly noisy aspects of the building work are scheduled to minimise the impact on students (for example, during vacations). There will also be obligations to control noise and dust in accordance with the Considerate Contractors Scheme.

Full information will be available about any changes in arrangements during the building work.

Keeping it Quiet

Here are some ways we’re helping to reduce disruption:

  • Five no workdays in each academic year for graduation, registration and open days;
  • Ten quiet days in each calendar year for exams, auditions and open days;
  • No contractor vehicle access between 08:00h and 10:00h and 16:30h and 18:00h;
  • No contractor vehicles to park on site, separate arrangements being put in place by Skanska.

Alternative Study Rooms

Our contractors will keep disruption to an absolute minimum, but if you do find the building works disturb your studies, alternative quiet spaces are available. Throughout the summer break, quiet study rooms are available for all students on request. Please email rooms@bathspa.ac.uk to book a room.
