Bath Spa University is pleased to support Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month, which celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community in the UK.
Bath Spa University is hosting a lecture by Dr Timothy Jones, co-director of the University of Glamorgan's Centre for Gender Studies in Wales, on the subject of 'Beyond the Stained Glass Closet: Christianity and homosexual law reform in 1950s Britain'.
Timothy Jones is a cultural historian with a particular interest in gender, sexuality and religion. He is currently working on a new project about the religious production of knowledge about homosexuality in the 1950s, particularly around the Wolfenden Report. He argues that religious writing was surprisingly influential in the decriminalising sex between men, and contrasts the ease with which major churches supported law reform with current perceived conflicts between religious and sexual discrimination.
The lecture is open to the public and is at Bath Spa University's Newton Park campus at 7.00pm on Wednesday 29 February. There is no charge to attend – to book a place please email HRContact@bathspa.ac.uk
