20th Anniversary of Writing Success
ARC, an anthology of new writing from Bath Spa University’s postgraduate creative writing students, will launch on Tuesday 15 May 2012 at Foyles on Charing Cross Road, London. The launch marks the 20th year of the hugely successful MA in Creative Writing.
In addition to new writing, the event will feature readings by notable graduates of Bath Spa, including Sam Harvey (The Wilderness, shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction 2009, longlisted for the 2009 Man Booker Prize, winner of the Betty Trask Prize for 2009), who has also contributed a foreword to the anthology.
The anthology is edited, produced and promoted by Bath Spa University students, and this year features a fascinating interview with Naomi Alderman, an author and games writer, whose novel Disobedience won the 2006 Orange Award for New Writers. It will also include the three best Flash Fiction stories written by students and judged by award-winning novelist Gerard Woodward.
Bath Spa University has produced many of the most original and acclaimed writers of the past decade, including Tessa Hadley, Mimi Thebo, Mo Hayder and Tricia Wastvedt. The most recent graduates look likely to continue this success.
Dr Steve May, Head of Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, said: "This year’s 20th anniversary anthology looks set to be our best ever. Not only is the quality of writing exceptionally high, but the diversity of genres is very impressive too. No wonder top literary agents and publishers welcome the anthology launch to find exciting new voices."
