English Language Requirements

At Bath Spa University all programmes are taught and assessed in English and you must have the required English language proficiency.
Applicants must have an English language qualification that is recognised by the University. 

General English Language Requirements

Undergraduate

  • IELTS - 6.0 (including a minimum of 5.5 in all bands)
  • TOEFL IBT - 80
  • Pearsons Test of English Academic - Level B2 (includng a minimum 51 in all bands)
  • Other recognised English language qualifications of an equivalent standard

Postgraduate

  • IELTS - 6.5 (including a minimum of 5.5 in all bands)
  • TOEFL IBT - 90 (including a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading and writing, 20 in speaking)
  • Pearsons Test of English Academic - Level C1 (includng a minimum 67 in all bands)
  • Other recognised English language qualifications of an equivalent standard

Postgraduate - MA Creative Writing; MA Scriptwriting; MA Travel and Nature Writing; MA Literature, Landscape and Environment

  • IELTS - 7.0 (including a minimum of 6.0 in all bands)
  • TOEFL IBT - 90 (including a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading and writing, 20 in speaking)
  • Other recognised English language qualifications of an equivalent standard

Studying English before your degree in Bath

If you have applied to study for a Bachelors or Masters degree at Bath Spa University, but you do not meet the English language requirements, you may be able study English language before you start your studies. Bath Spa University offers a pre-sessional English language programme before advancing on to your degree. If you need to improve your English language score, or you just want to be more prepared before you start your studies, there are many opportunities to study English in your home country.
