What Happens on Erasmus

How to Apply / What Happens on Erasmus?

The institution you are placed with depends on the subjects you want to specialise in. Once you apply, we will invite you to an interview to discuss which institution(s) will be the best fit.

For some placements, you will be expected to speak the host language, but many institutions teach courses in English, too.

If you’re eligible, you will be entitled to an LLP Erasmus grant towards the cost of the visit. The host institution or agency will normally organise your accommodation for you. This could be campus accommodation, a shared student flat or house, or living with a host family.

The Erasmus scheme is an integral part of your degree programme and a study placement in Europe is equivalent to the time you would spend at Bath Spa University. During placements, Erasmus students are expected to take courses in areas they are currently studying, which equate to half a year or a full academic year’s study at BSU. Transfer of credits is via the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

The credits you’ll earn on Erasmus placement count towards final degrees, but if Erasmus students are registered on a classified Honours Degree programme, classification of the degree will be based only on the modules taken at BSU in years 2 and 3. If you have any queries concerning assessment, you’ll find all the answers in your student handbook.
