What's a University for? A Free Public Lecture with Professor Sue Rigby

Wednesday 21 November, 2018 – Wednesday 21 November, 2018
5:45 PM – 6:45 PM

Holburne Museum, Great Pulteney Street, Bath, BA2 4DB

In a world of Google and open learning, what’s a University for? What’s special about learning from academics? And, is it really worth the money? Join Sue Rigby as she unpacks this controversial debate through the (perhaps) biased perspective of a University Vice-Chancellor, and explores how, with the rise of fake news and data-mining, we might need a University more than ever.

Sue Rigby trained as a palaeontologist at Oxford and Cambridge. After a successful career as an academic in the Universities of Leicester and Edinburgh, she moved into senior management as Vice-Principal for learning and teaching at Edinburgh, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Lincoln. She has been Vice-Chancellor at Bath Spa University since January 2018.
