Current scholarship

My current research interests focus on the use of digital mapping technologies and other associated technologies with particular reference to access to the countryside for people with mobility impairments. Pedagogical research interests focus on e-learning in the HE curriculum.

  1. provision of a model that can be used to determine the endurance of different types of mobility scooters using terrain elevation data, terrain surface data and scooter specifications with particular attention to battery duration for a single charge discharge cycle.
  2. Capture and dissemination of route information for accessible 'walks' using GNSS technology
  3. Development of a location based System using wi-fi, cell phone and GNSS technologies.
  4. Use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning for heritage and river asset management applications
  5. Validation of positional and metric accuracy of 360 degree terrestrial photography of urban street panoramas
  6. E-learning in the Geography curriculum. Students' perceptions of e-learning - replacing traditional face to face seminars with asynchronous seminar sessions.
  7. E-learning in the Geography curriculum - collaborative writing using Google Sites
