Personal Statement

I teach Primary Science on the PGCE Primary course and am a TeachFirst Subject Tutor for primary Science. Prior to this, I worked as a Science Subject Leader and primary school teacher for ten years in UK state maintained primary schools. Perhaps for this reason, I also teach the Introduction to Primary Schools module for Education Studies. I am currently studying a PhD in how teachers learn to change their assessment practice in primary Science.

I am interested in how teachers are trained and how pupil progress is assessed within other educational systems too. I have visited the teacher training college at the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao and the Universitat de Manresa, Catalunya. I speak fluent Spanish and am happy to help colleagues with translation.

Aside from my passion for teaching children science, I am also interested in giving children the opportunity to learn and flourish outdoors. I completed my Master's Research in the field of improving writing outcomes for infant school children through creative play outdoors, and developed a framework for teaching and improving writing through outdoor learning. I have also written about outdoor play and learning for one to three year olds.
