Studying Abroad: Exchange Programmes

Bath Spa University has links with universities and colleges in Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States.

Lifelong Learning Programme: Erasmus Placements

Any student on the Modular Programme can apply to study abroad as part of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP): Erasmus scheme, which is supported by the European Commission in Brussels. Placements are usually for a whole semester in a European university or higher education institution during your second year. Some opportunities exist for you to spend a full year abroad. Provided you successfully complete your placement, you will obtain full academic recognition and your study abroad period will be counted towards your Bath Spa University degree, using the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

The LLP Erasmus placement provides a wonderful opportunity to experience education in a different country; immerse yourself in a different culture; learn a new language or develop current language skills; and enhance your curriculum vitae.

Bath Spa University has extensive European links and there are opportunities for placements in the following institutions:

Placements are also available in Switzerland at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Hochschule Luzern) and at the Zurich University of Teacher Education in Zurich (PH Zurich). These are outside the Erasmus scheme but subject to similar conditions.

For Current Bath Spa University Students

Your choice of institution will depend upon your subject specialisms. If you apply you will have an individual interview to discuss which institution would be best for you.

For some placements, for example Italy, you would be expected to speak the host language, but many institutions offer courses that are taught in English.

If eligible, you will receive a LLP Erasmus grant towards the cost of the visit. Accommodation is normally organised for you by the host institution or an agency. This could be campus accommodation, a shared student flat or house, or living with a host family.

International Study Opportunities

If you are interested in spending time further afield, you can explore our exchange opportunities outside Europe. Currently, we have around ten partner universities in non-EU countries. This allows us to offer study opportunities and sometimes scholarships in Japan and the USA. In recent years Bath Spa students have participated in non-EU study opportunities as follows:
