Disability Equality
Bath Spa University is committed to making all its courses available to the widest possible range of entrants and to enabling every student to realise his or her full potential. Policies and action aimed at delivering this objective are longstanding in the University . At present, 1 in 14 of our students has disabilities/learning difficulties (389 in total). This group includes students with dyslexia, mobility difficulties, hearing impairment, visual impairment and mental health problems. Students in each of these categories - indeed each individual student - have particular needs which must be met if they are to participate fully in the learning process and in the life of the University. Our efforts include: the training of staff, the provision of equipment, the adaptation of student accommodation and the adaptation of all other buildings, particularly in relation to meeting the needs of students with mobility difficulties.
We seek to accompany our positive actions with clear statements to potential students of problem areas within the University and we acknowledge difficulties in relation to some of our older buildings including, for example, Main House at Newton Park. Nevertheless, most of our premises are accessible to people with mobility impairment and we are often able to take additional action such as re-timetabling classes, or providing office services (such as Registry) in accessible locations. We will adapt to the requirements of students with disabilities/difficulties wherever we can. Our recommendation to potential students is to come and visit our campus, discuss your needs with our staff and make your own assessment of the facilities we can deliver.
We hope that this statement will help you make your decision in choosing a course and an institution at which to study. Should you join Bath Spa University, we hope that the measures we are taking will enable you to benefit from our courses to the maximum.
