Legal Framework

Ultimately our corporate status is conferred by the relevant statutes, in particular the Education Reform Act of 1988 and the Further and Higher Education Act 1992. The actual legislation is publicly available on the HMSO (Her Majesty's Stationery Office) website. The structure of the Bath Spa University is defined by our own Instrument and Articles of Government.

Lists of and Information Relating to Organisations For Which the University Has Responsibility For, Those it Works in Partnership With, Those it Sponsors and Companies Wholly Owned By It
The University has partnerships with several FE Colleges and Training Centres in the South West. The University also places trainee teachers with a number of local schools and academies, details of which are available from the Information Officer.
Creative Bath receives sponsorship from the University. Creative Bath is a networking organisation / informal group of creative businesses with no legal status. It is currently run/managed by Bath-based publishing company Media Clash, the recipient business of this sponsorship. The sponsorship promotes student and graduate creative talent and the work of the University of local creative professionals.
On the basis that a partnership is defined as working with an organisation: for mutual benefit (and not, say, an employer agreeing to host a student on placement, or work with a student within a mentee/mentor relationship) the following is a list of our current partnerships:
- Federation of Small Businesses (Bath Branch): working together to promote the advantages of working with students/graduates to small and micro businesses; and the benefits to graduates of developing their own enterprises;
- Bath Festivals Trust: working across many Schools and Departments across both Festivals on activities ranging from student volunteering, creative input, performances, accessing staff expertise and ad hoc projects. Some elements of this includes a financial payment to the Trust, so would count as a sponsorship, but the overall relationship if much more of a partnership;
- South West Screen: Delivering a suite of training for creative businesses and professionals across the South West region, where those signing up for training enrol as students of BSU to accumulate academic credit;
- Business Link: Providing regular business start-up advice sessions to students.
Student Activities
Non-academic student activities are managed by the Students' Union, for the benefit of all current students.
