Requesting Information

A member of the public requiring access to information must make a written request (.doc), which can be submitted by post or email, via the addresses listed below:

Information Officer,
Bath Spa University,
Newton Park Campus,
Newton St Loe,
Bath, BA2 9BN.

Telephone: (01225) 875848.

Please note that if you are requesting access to your own personal data, the request becomes a DPA subject access request rather than FOI and you should therefore submit a request in accordance with our Data Protection Policy.

Whenever possible, we will provide information via our website. Where it is impracticable to make information available on our website or when an individual does not wish to access the information by the website, BSU will try to make it available by other means.

In exceptional circumstances some information may be available only by viewing in person. Where this manner is specified, contact details will be provided. An appointment to view the information will be arranged within a reasonable timescale.

Information will be provided in the language in which it is held or in such other language that is legally required.  Where BSU is legally required to translate any information, it will do so.

Obligations under disability and discrimination legislation and any other legislation to provide information in other forms and formats will be adhered to when providing information in accordance with this scheme.

Where the request is specific, enabling us to identify what is wanted without difficulty, then the enquirer must be:

  1. Told that the information exists;
  2. Offered the opportunity of looking at it in situ, or have a copy of it.

Where the request is not specific, then it is our duty proactively to assist the member of the public to identify the piece of information he or she seeks. This duty is also enshrined in the requirement to produce a "Publication Scheme", which is intended to be a convenient means to identify information held by us and available under the Act.

BSU must respond to a written enquiry within 20 days.
