After Applying

After your application has been received by the Graduate School the following will occur:-

  • Application form and accompanying materials will be checked to ensure all satisfy application criteria (this includes verifying degree certificates, IELTS qualifications or similar).
  • Confirmation of receipt of application will be sent to applicant.
  • The institution will formally request academic references using the details provided on the application form - these usually take a minimum of two weeks to arrive.
  • Upon receipt of both references these will be sent to the appropriate School for consideration (along with application form and other materials).  It can take 3-4 weeks before a decision is made on whether to call for interview. Please note that due to the numbers of applications being received only a minority of proposals are judged sufficiently strong enough to proceed to interview. A comparative judgement is made in which a number of factors are taken in account, including our estimate of the quality of the proposal and writing sample, and the ability of the School to provide a suitable supervisory team.  Please note that it is University policy not to enter into subsequent debate about a decision once it has been made.
  • Contact will be made with the applicant to confirm whether or not they will be invited for an interview.
  • Following interview, if successful, an offer letter will be sent confirming enrolment date, fees, supervisory team etc.  Please note that we have four enrolment dates in any one year; 1st January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October. Your enrolment start date will normally be discussed at interview.
