Postgraduate Funding
There is no statutory funding such as student loans for postgraduate students unless you are undertaking a PGCE course. However, there are a number of sources where postgraduate students can apply for funding. Please see http://www.bathspa.ac.uk/study-with-us/postgraduate/fees-and-finance for more information.
AHRC Studentships 2013/2014
Professional Preparation Masters Programme
The University has 2 Professional Preparation Masters (PPM) studentships available in the areas of Creative Writing, Writing for Young People and/or Scriptwriting; 1 PPM available in the Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) programmes and 1 PPM available in the area of Applied Arts and Cafts (incorporating the following MA Design courses: Ceramics, Fashion and Textiles and Investigating Fashion Design, and also the MA Investigating Crafts) Details of the application process can be found here - the application, and all supporting materials, must be received by April 26th 2013.
PhD in Creative Writing
The university has been awarded block grants for two, full time, PhD in Creative Writing students.
The first block grant holder began their full time PhD study in October 2012. The second block grant holder will begin their full time study in October 2013. The application, and all supporting materials, must be received by April 22nd 2013. Full details, with a copy of the application form to be used, can be found on our PhD in Creative Writing pages here.
The competition for these grants is open to already enrolled BSU PhD in Creative Writing students who are very early in their studies; and to external candidates.
Competition for these grants will be extremely high. The successful applicants are likely to be published writers – or writers with at least one book under contract – who hold a 1st class undergraduate degree and a distinction for an MA in Creative Writing (or equivalent).
Please note that for external applicants, applying for the AHRC studentship and to Bath Spa's PhD in Creative Writing programme is a simultaneous process: the above downloadable application does both of these things at once. Internal applicants must also complete the form.
