School for Development and Participation
Bath Spa University's School for Development & Participation is engaged with a range of developmental initiatives, detailed below, that facilitate and support the institution's strategic plan.
Wessex Partnership
As part of our widening participation activities, Bath Spa University has formed partnerships with several further education (FE) Colleges, known as the Wessex Partnership. Students can study vocational two-year foundation degrees at the Wessex Partnership colleges and then 'top up' to the third year of an associated honours degree course at Bath Spa University. In addition, some students have the opportunity, through the Wessex Partnership, of studying locally for the first year of a combined award and, on successful completion, transfer to Bath Spa University for the second and third years of an honours degree.
Lifelong Learning - Initial Teacher Training
The Lifelong Learning Initial Teacher Training (LL ITT) programme is delivered at partner FE colleges for staff working in the ?lifelong learning? sector. This includes those teaching, training or tutoring in FE colleges, adult and community learning, private training providers, public sector training (e.g. NHS), prison education and armed forces instructors. The LL ITT programme offers a Certificate in Education/Professional Graduate Certificate in Education as a part-time, two-year in-service course, which meets the current qualification requirements for gaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. We are also developing a range of continuing professional development programmes.

The ASDC also runs the Graduate/Post Graduate Certificate: Professional Learning in Higher Education.

Widening Participation
Widening participation embodies and implements the university's strategy to increase and support the participation of people from under-represented groups in higher education, including those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and disabled people. A wide range of outreach programmes and events are organised to encourage participation by raising awareness of, and aspirations to, higher education and to support academic attainment and progression.

Business Support Office
Universities are a cornerstone of the knowledge economy and the Business Support Office (BSO) develops and manages initiatives that facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise and collaborative work between the university and businesses/organisations. The BSO works across the university with academics and students to encourage a culture of enterprise and entrepreneurship, which enhances graduate employability and supports of the use of university-gained knowledge in real-world applications.

Its focus is to develop flexible learning opportunities for vocational learners to engage with higher education and to audit, collate and publish progression agreements that operate across the network region.

Higher Level Skills
The Higher Level Skills project aims to help employers to enhance the capacity and talents of their staff by linking them with cost-effective and viable higher level skills training and development solutions that meet their business needs. The project aims to revolutionise the way that higher education is delivered to business by developing a flexible framework within which specific pieces of higher learning can be accumulated leading to defined higher education awards. Higher education providers are also working directly with business to create demand lead provision.
