Why study Early Childhood Studies (Foundation Degree)?
This new course is an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to work with young children in any setting; from nursery to reception class. It is suitable for entry straight from a Level 3 qualification and provides the theory and practice needed to become an effective practitioner. With the government recognising that children thrive better when supported by high level practitioners, you would be well placed to start a career in early years.
Course structure
The course will provide extensive placements to ensure that you have a good knowledge of many different types of childcare. The taught content includes study skills to provide you with the competences needed for effective academic work, and the modules provide a mixture of theory and principles that underpin good practice. You would explore current issues around children and learn about how to make the best provision for children from birth to five
On successful completion of this course you will be able to enter the early years profession in a variety of roles and work in children’s centres, nurseries and schools. You may also have the opportunity to continue on to the Honours top-up at Weston College.
You can enter the early years sector at this point, or after completing the Honours top-up continue onto a PGCE to become a teacher. If you wish to do this you will need a Science GCSE at C or above as well as Maths and English.
