The Vibrant School Project
The Vibrant School Project (VSP) is a collaborative venture between Bath Spa University School of Education and Wiltshire LEA advisory service. Now in its fifth year, VSP involves 25 Wiltshire primary schools. Each is undertaking a focused school improvement project to develop into a ?Vibrant School?.
Vibrancy is seen as an essential element of high-quality learning and teaching in the primary school. It is characterised by:
- pupils engaged in learning that is meaningful to them
- resilience and resourcefulness of pupils working as self-motivated learners
- ownership of the curriculum by teachers and pupils
- willingness of school managers to take risks in order to achieve high-quality learning
- an understanding of the purpose of the enterprise of schooling, shared by pupils, parents and teachers
- a school that is forging its own direction.
The head teachers and deputies of the 25 schools meet every few weeks with Wiltshire advisers and BSU Education tutors to enhance their understanding of vibrancy and associated concepts and to plan and share progress in their individual school projects. Keynote speakers such as Guy Claxton, Jonathan Barnes, Robert Fisher and Carl Honore have extended our thinking, and been the springboard for several exciting projects.
In addition, 10 of our previous ?Vibrant Schools? are involved in a project with TLO (The Learning Organisation), to pilot their Mindtracker materials. For more information about Mindtracker, visit http://www.tloltd.co.uk/
