Children and the Environment Research Centre (CERC)
The Children and the Environment Research Centre (CERC) promotes both individual and collaborative research enterprise and scholarship in the field of children and their environments. It contributes to a body of knowledge of critical, philosophical, socio-cultural and political discussion within the field in addition to the international debate about improving children's well-being within the contexts of education and community. The Centre adopts a collaborative approach to developing projects and engages with an international network of professionals and academics.
CERC builds theory and undertakes research in relation to children's everyday lives and community experience. Projects principally focus on children from disadvantaged urban and rural settings in the Northern hemisphere. Research is undertaken in the Bath and Bristol area as well as internationally, for example, in collaboration with partners in Europe. The Centre seeks opportunities for multi-disciplinary research within Bath Spa University as well as with local schools. The central aim is to improve children's lives and well-being through environmental education practice, research and policy. Children will be core members of CERC.
