Centre for Research in Arts Education (CRAE)

The Centre for Research in Arts Education (CRAE) embraces a broad range of disciplines within the arts, promoting inter-disciplinary arts and arts educational practice, and research. The Centre draws upon the distinctive specialisms at Bath Spa University, operating across the full spectrum of visual and performing arts: creative writing, dance, drama, music, visual art including traditional media and techniques, multimedia, video and installation.

CRAE broadens theoretical knowledge of critical, philosophical, socio-cultural and political debates and initiatives within arts education. It also extends empirical arts practice within the context of educational, community-based, and cultural and institutional settings.

CRAE fosters an inclusive ethos within arts education, promoting both individual and collaborative research and scholarship and engaging diverse participants within a wide range of contexts. Members and Associates of CRAE are committed to developing their own practice in order to broaden knowledge and understanding within the arts and arts education. CRAE Projects create new opportunities for wider participation in the arts as well as frequently challenging notions of cultural exclusion.
