The Centre for Research in Early Scientific Learning (CRESL)
The Centre for Research in Early Scientific Learning (CRESL) promotes both individual and collaborative research and scholarship in primary and early years science education. CRESL fosters a collaborative approach to developing projects, including applications for external funding, to broaden knowledge of theory and practice within the field of early scientific learning and related fields.
Findings from such research are used to inform science teaching in a range of settings, including teacher education, and are disseminated via the web, conferences and through academic and professional publications.
We interpret the phrase 'early scientific learning' to embrace learners of whatever age who are encountering scientific concepts, processes and attitudes at a relatively early stage in their development.
CRESL will focus upon:
- collaborative and individual bids for research funding
- develop early scientific learning research projects, in collaboration between members of the centre, other schools within the university and partner organisations
- maintain a centre website to disseminate findings from the research and scholarship associated with the centre
- organise occasional seminars to disseminate and extend empirical research in early scientific learning
