Bath Spa University has the following AHRC studentships available for 2012-13 under the AHRC Block Grant: Capacity Building Scheme. All are for full studentships covering tuition fees (paid to the university) and maintenance allowance (paid to the student in non-taxable quarterly instalments).
- 2 x MA Creative Writing or MA Writing for Young People or MA Scriptwriting
- 1 x Master of Fine Art (MFA)
- 1 x MMus (Songwriting)

At this time the AHRC has not yet announced the maintenance allowance but as a guide for 2011-12 it was £8,845 for a full Masters studentship and £13,590 for a full PhD studentship.
Most of these awards are under the AHRC Professional Preparation Master’s Scheme. The PPM scheme supports students undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma or Master’s course that focuses on developing high level skills and competencies for professional practice.

Notes for AHRC Studentship Applicants
Most of the information we require can be gained from your original application to the University, although we will require you to submit an additional AHRC Studentship Application form (click here). We expect competition for these studentships to be fierce; you should therefore make your additional AHRC Studentship Application as applied as possible to the award and your career aspirations, and using the most appropriate referee(s).
Before you apply you should familiarise yourself with the AHRCs eligibility requirements which can be found in their guide to student funding guide to student funding (.pdf). In particular applicants should ensure that they meet the scheme eligibility (Section 7), residency eligibilty (Annex 1, page 64 onwards) and conditions on other paid employment if holding a full AHRC award (page 14). On the last point applicants should note that they should not undertake more than 6 hours paid work per week (averaged across the award period) if applying for a full-time award.
