Research in the School of Humanities and Cultural Industries
The School has research activity across all of its Departments with particular strengths, as measured in the independent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE2008), in English and Creative Writing, History, and Communication, Cultural and Media Studies where some of the research was awarded a world-leading rating (4*).
The School has received research grants and/or doctoral bursaries from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) in History, English, Creative Writing, and Study of Religions. The School has also gained research grants from other major national funders, such as The Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, Arts Council, and many other charitable or commercial organisations.
Where there are a number of academic staff and doctoral researchers working together around common themes the University has approved Research Centres and Research Groups (with links in the adjacent box).
The School has vibrant postgraduate community of around 100 students. Our MA courses are taught at the Corsham Court Centre, which also provides office space for research students and a base for our Research Centre activity.
The School particularly welcomes PhD enquiries from potential applicants whose research may complement that of the Centres and Groups. As well as exploring the links to the left, potential PhD applicants should also visit the University's Graduate School website.
