Research Degree Awarding Powers
On 01 September 2004, DfES published new Criteria for degree-awarding powers and university title. One section of the criteria relate to research degree awarding powers (RDAP). The University applied to the Privy Council for RDAP in November 2006. The Privy Council seeks advice from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). In August 2008, the Privy Council determined that the University ad met the criteria for research degree-awarding powers.
The University had to produce a "critical self-evaluation" of its arrangements for research degree work to make its application. This and associated papers explaining the University's approach to research degree provision may be accessed below.
