1.7 - Health And Safety Committee

To review the University Health, Safety and Fire Management Policy (HSFMP) in the light of statutory requirements and best practice
To satisfy itself that the Health, Safety and Fire Management Policy is being implemented
To recommend the establishment of working groups to investigate any aspect of health and safety as appropriate
To monitor and highlight priorities for Health and Safety training
To study accident records and recommend remedial action where appropriate
To receive reports of Health and Safety Inspections and Fire Evacuation Practices from Area Safety Managers and where appropriate recommend improvements in procedure
To scrutinise Fire Safety Management audit reports

To study accident and illness records and make recommendations for corrective action
To examine Safety Inspection Reports and to consider reports provided by the Inspectorate and union safety representatives
To assist in the development of safety rules and systems of work
To monitor the effectiveness of H&S communications in the workplace
To provide a link with the Inspectorate
To carry out inspections additional to those mentioned above, as necessary.
