1.9 - How To Get Help
All Health and Safety issues should be dealt with as a matter of importance. Any person who has a concern about a health and safety issue should, in the first instance, report the issue to their Line Manager and confirm in writing.
Depending on the seriousness of the issue, the matter should then be assigned to the appropriate person within the School/Department who is able to action a solution, eg. if it is just a matter of a carpet which needs pinning down; then Property Services should be contacted using the Work Management System. If however, the matter is one of a more serious nature eg. the mental stress caused by overcrowding or unsafe working conditions; it should be dealt with directly by the appropriate Head of School/Department. Staff should always refer such issues in the first instance to their Line Manager and only resort to contacting the Health Safety and Environment Adviser if no action is being taken. It should be appreciated that the role of the Corporate Safety Adviser is to provide guidance and set out matters of policy.
Clear Guidelines for staff, concerning a whole range of issues, are provided on the Bath Spa University web-site in the Health and Safety Section. Topics of general concern or policy change are dealt with by the University Health and Safety Committee.
