Age

Below are some useful links to groups both within the University and in the wider community.

Hi, I'm Tessa Griffiths, Head of Marketing and Communications, and the University's Diversity Champion for Age. I would be interested to hear about events and information that could be promoted and presented on this webpage, as well as any issues that I could take to the Equality and Diversity Steering Group. You can email me or phone 01225 875725.

BSU is actively looking to set up an Age Diversity Network Group. Employee Network Groups can provide support, opportunities to socialise and input into the development of the University. If you'd like to be involved, please contact Elaine Orchard, HR Manager.

If you'd like to provide feedback on a current policy, procedure or practice at BSU, or would be willing to provide feedback on any future practice, please also contact HR or Tessa. If you'd prefer to make contact confidentially, then please indicate this.

Further information

As part of our Learning & Development resources, HR have a DVD to hire about respecting people of different ages in the workplace. If you're interested in borrowing this title, please email HR. All DVDs will be rented out in confidence.

Events

Full of Life

People are living longer. By 2020, half the population of the UK will be aged 50 or over and this will bring fundamental changes to the nature of society. This is a long-term challenge that will need the support of everyone. Together, we need to change attitudes about ageing and older people, and do more to value the contribution that older people make.

Under the Full of Life banner, the government and other supporting groups are arranging a variety of activities. The main event is UK Older People's Day, which will take place on 1 October to coincide with the UN International Day for Older Persons.

For further information or to register, find or take part in a local event please visit Directgov’s website Full of Life.
