Gender Equality
Below are some useful links to groups both within the University and in the wider community.

Hi, I'm Cathy Leng, Head of Department: Business and Management. I have worked at Bath Spa University for over ten years in the Business and Management Department, and am currently based in the Stanton Building, Newton Park.
To be treated equally is a right we all have in our place of work and study. Here at Bath Spa University we all take these responsibilities with the utmost importance, and I am delighted to be the Gender Champion for you at Bath Spa University. This will give me the opportunity to champion these issues for staff, and to be present on the Equality and Diversity Steering Group.
If you have an concerns over gender issues where you feel I could help you, then please do contact me by email or phone 01225 875691.
If you'd like to provide feedback on a current policy, procedure or practice at BSU, or would be willing to provide feedback on any future practice, please also contact me or HR. If you'd prefer to make contact confidentially, then please indicate this.

Women on Boards, A Snail's Pace - 7 March 2012
In celebration of International Women's Day, you are invited to join Dr Samantha Collins (CEO of Aspire Companies and Founder of the Aspire Foundation) for a unique teleconference discussion to debate, discuss and explore what future worlds of work women leaders aspire to.
The lack of women board members has received significant press of late and points to a business problem that companies need to address. The benefits of advancing women to the board seem clear and the research points us to increased profitability, innovation and corporate governance when boards are more gender balanced. However, despite over 30 years of organisational initiatives, legislation, research and social change, the number of women on boards is growing at a snails pace.
Listen to Dr Collins share some of the best practice from over 10 years of working with
organisations to retain women, and to debate the following questions:
- Are we right to assume women actually want to be on the boards of companies?
- If women do, what are the organisational strategies that are actually working to make this happen?
- If women don't, is there anything that can be done from an organisational or governmental perspective?
- What can women do to influence the rate of progress in their organisations?
- What are the individual success strategies that women can adopt themselves to get to the most senior levels in organisations?

Gender Diversity Means Business
European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding is weary of empty words in boardrooms across Europe on the issue of gender equality. She is now calling for companies to take action. In 2010, women on average made up 12% of board members in the biggest publicly listed companies across the EU. Only 3% were board chairs.
INSEAD Knowledge recently interviewed Commissioner Reding at the Women's Forum in Deauville in October 2011 where she shares her views on the role business schools should play:

The duty is to require public authorities (including HEI's) to promote gender equality and eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment.
