Annual Leave Calculation Information
Calculation of Annual Leave
Please follow the link for calculation of leave entitlement for full or part-time members of staff:
Carry Forward of Annual Leave
By the end of each annual leave year, employees are expected to forward their annual leave chart to their line manager for approval of any carry forward of leave into the next leave year.
Full-time member of staff
A maximum of five days can be carried forward into the new annual leave year.
For part-time members of staff
A pro rata equivalent of five days can only be carried forward into the new annual leave year.
For example an employee working part-time for 18.5 hours (0.5 FTE) per
week will be able to carry forward only 18.5 hours (37 hours x 0.5 = 18.5
hours).
Long Service and Annual Leave for Support Staff
Five completed years of continuous service
For support staff who have completed five years of continuous service with Bath Spa University five additional days of annual leave or pro rata in hours for part-time members of staff will be applied.
Ten completed years of continuous service
For support staff who have completed ten years of continuous service with Bath Spa University 1 additional day of annual leave or pro rata in hours for part-time members of staff will be applied.
Part-Time Members of Staff
In case a part-time member of staff changes their hours of work annual leave entitlement has to be re-calculated. Please use the following steps to calculate their entitlement:
1. Calculate annual leave from start date to end date of previous hours of work
2. Calculate annual leave from new start date to end date with new hours of work.
3. Add both numbers to receive the total amount of hours for part-time staff
See example below:
A part-time support staff changes from 18.5 hours per week to 25 hours per week by 1 Jan 07.
1. 1 Sep 2006 - 31 Dec 2006 - 20 days entitlement, working 18.5 hours per week = 25 h
2. 1 Jan 2007 - 31 Aug 2007 - 20 days entitlement, working 25 hours per week = 67 h
3. 25 h + 67 h = 92 h (new total entitlement).
