Web of Knowledge: Web of Science

The Web of Knowledge provides access to the Web of Science - the ISI citation indexes.  The databases give access to the Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Index and Arts and Humanities Index from 1970 to date: this covers over 9,000 journals, including author abstracts, and they can be searched separately or all together.

You can also search the ISI Proceedings database which indexes the literature of the most significant conferences, symposia, etc. in a wide range of disciplines in science and technology from 1990 onwards.

After logging in to Web of Knowledge, click on Web of Science or ISI Proceedings or use CrossSearch to search both at once.

Try the tutorial available from Web of Science: this gives an overview of the database and introduction to searching.

Important Notes

None of these databases provide full text, although many entries include abstracts.   You will need to check the Library catalogue and/or journals web pages to find out whether a particular book or journal is held.   If not, you may want to apply via interlibrary loans for a copy.
