Academic gateways
Gateways provide access to other websites. They usually provide an indication of the contents of a site and who compiled it so that you can evaluate it before going to visit. It is a quick method of searching for websites which have generally been evaluated.
- Archives Hub: information about the archives held in some 145 universities, part of the National Archives Network;
- Arts and Humanities Data Service: collects, describes and preserves the electronic resources which result from research and teaching in the humanities. You will need to register to view visual images and videos but this is free;
- BUBL Information Service: offers the academic and research community easy access to Internet resources and services, including combined WWW/Gopher subject trees. BUBL provides a subject-based service via its Link / 5:15, including links to many electronic journals and texts and to library catalogues and online databases worldwide;
- ELDIS: a gateway to information sources on development and the environment, hosted by the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex;
- Intute: access to the best of the web for learning and research purposes. All material listed is evaluated by subject specialists. It can be searched as a whole or through broad subjects.
