- Academic Search Premier: covers a whole range of academic subjects; good for educational psychology, health etc.
- British Education Index: provides references on educational research, policy and practice in the UK.
- Education Research Complete: full text of 750 education journals.
- ScienceDirect: includes the e-journal Thinking Skills and Creativity.
Newspapers
- Times Education Supplement: The archive section of the TES goes back to 1994.
- Newsbank: You can read UK newspapers online, including the Guardian and the Independent. Local papers like the Bath Chronicle are also available could be useful for coverage of local schools and education issues.

As well as web resources, take a look at the Internet Training section to develop your internet research skills to support your university study. The online tutorial designed for Education students has recently been updated (2009).

- Department for Business Innovation and Skills: Government department covers post-19 learning.

- Department for Education Performance Tables
- Digital Education Research Archive: Digital publications of UK central government, agencies and other organisations. Hosted by the institute of Education.
- Joseph Rowntree Foundation: A UK social policy research and development charity. Research findings are downloadable.
- National Curriculum: Includes downloadable programmes of study for each subject and key stage. Also has sections on the aims and purpose of the National Curriculum.
- Ofsted: Includes all Ofsted's Inspection reports, plus Ofsted publications and guidance documents.
- Sutton Trust: The Trust focuses on research to address educational inequalities. Reports and research findings are available to download.
- Teachernet: Developed by the DCSF as a resource to support the education profession. The site includes current issues, teaching tips, a database of some 2,000 lesson plans, and much more.
Education: International
- Eurydice: Information on and analyses of European education systems and policies.
- OECD: The OECD works on global issues and education is one part of its work. The organisation collects data, monitors trends, and forecasts developments Many documents are downloadable.
Educational research
- CERUK: A searchable database of current education and children's service research projects in the UK.
- Department for Education Research: Contains details of research projects funded by the Department for Education, as well as those projects previously undertaken by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and Department for Education and Skills.
- Education-line: A full-text database of education 'grey' literature, including conference papers, working papers and electronic literature which support educational research, policy and practice.
- National Foundation for Educational Research: The NFER undertakes research in all sectors of education.
