Borrowing

Borrowing can be done at any time the libraries are open via the self-service machines.  Don't forget to print out your receipt when you've finished so you know when loans are due.  Do not forget that you are responsible for any item issued to your card - don't lend it to anyone else and, if you lose it, let Library staff know as soon as possible.

Loan allocations

Loan allocations can be made up of any combination of items - books, audio-visual materials, DVDs, videos, CDs, etc.

Students on taught courses 15 items
Students on School Experience 25 items
Students on research programmes 25 items
Academic staff 25 items
Support staff 15 items

Students going out on School Experience have their loan allocation raised from 15 to 25 items two weeks before going into school: Standard loans and Schools’ Resources items are then issued for the whole of the School Experience period. The 25 items can all made up from Schools' Resources, posters and packs but a maximum of 15 from the main stock is imposed in the interests of fairness to students on other courses.

Please note that 1-Week loans and 3-day loans (DVDs and CDs) are NOT included in the longer School Experience loan period – if you borrow this material remember to keep it renewed while you are away on placement.

Reference items and journals cannot be borrowed and should be returned to their place on the shelves when you have finished with them.

Loan periods and fines

The libraries operate a number of different loan periods to cater for differing demands on the stock. Fines are charged on all overdue items so do check the return date stamped in them or on your self-service receipt and try to return or renew items by that date.   If you are worried about any debts you owe to the Library, please come and talk to one of the staff.

Standard loan 3 weeks 20p per day, to a maximum of £10 per item
Week loan Red band (NP), white band (SH) 50p per day, to a maximum of £10 per item

Most loans can be renewed and items on loan can normally be placed on hold.

Please ask any member of library staff for assistance with using this service.

If loans are not returned or are lost or damaged...

If loans are not returned, you will eventually have your library privileges withdrawn and be charged replacement costs at the full, current prices.  If loans are lost or damaged, then the full replacement costs will also be applied.   Please try not to let it get to that stage!
