Placing holds
You can put a Hold through the Library catalogue (1) on items which are on loan to other users and (2) items which are available at another campus - see the instructions below. At Newton Park, you will need to fill in a Store Retrieval form to request available items in the Store there.
How to place a hold
Your User ID is the six-figure number on your ID card. Your PIN is set as your birth date in six digits, e.g. birthday 17 June 1988, PIN 170688.
- From any networked computer (at University or at home), go to the Library home page and, from Search the Library Catalogue, select the campus you are based at.
- Search as normal for the item you want to place a hold on.
- When you have found it, click on the title to display it and then on Place Hold on the left.
- You will be prompted for your User ID and PIN. Enter them and click on Place Hold.
- You can have up to 10 holds active at any one time.
When you have finished, click on Logout at the top of the screen to prevent others from accessing and/or misusing your personal information.
You should check your library account to see if your holds are available for collection. You will also receive a mesage via your Bath Spa email. All items are held for collection for three days.
Please note that Library staff cannot collect books from the shelves and store them for collection. Also, you cannot place a hold on:
- Items on loan to yourself
- Items on Reference
- Items that are already available at your home campus
- Items that are available in Store if you are based at Newton Park. For these items, please fill in a Store Retrieval form
