Tackling Hate Crime
BSU is a member of Partnership Against Hate Crime (PAHC) and this briefing includes information and guidance about hate crime and how to report any incidents or concerns.
PAHC aims to promote a joint approach to:
- Reducing hate crime/incidents across B&NES
- Increasing awareness
- Maximising reporting of hate crime/incidents
- Delivering the highest level of victim care

What is hate crime?
Any offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by the offenders prejudice or hatred of people because of their:
- Disability
- Race or Nationality
- Religion or Belief
- Sexual Orientation
- Transgender identity
This could include incidents of:
- Bullying
- Anti-Social Behaviour
- Graffiti
- Assault
- Harassment
- Damage to property
- Verbal Abuse
Why report hate crime?
BSU believes any hate crime is totally unacceptable and encourages you to report any incidents. You will not be alone. Reporting will ensure you get the support you need.
A minor incident could be part of a wider pattern of abuse or could lead to more serious incidents if unreported.
