Disability Support

Disability and Dyslexia

We believe that every student should have an equal opportunity to learn and to enjoy their student life. Our aim is to support the needs of individual disabled students while, at the same time, working to remove barriers and create an inclusive environment.

We want you to receive the support you are entitled to, so please tell us about any disability, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, Asperger Syndrome, mental health illness or a medical condition, sensory or mobility impairment, even if you do not think it will affect you while you are at university.

Student Support provides confidential information, guidance and practical support to students who have a disability or specific learning difference.  When you first apply to Bath Spa University and disclose your disability on your (UCAS) application form, we will contact you asking for details about your learning support requirements and written evidence of your condition, if available.

The information you provide is treated as personal and sensitive data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and is made available on a ‘need to know’ basis only to university staff involved with your application and the organisation of support arrangements.

Funding for Disabled Students

Funding for learning support for UK students at university is provided by the UK Government through DSAs (Disabled Students' Allowances).  Bath Spa recommends that all eligible students apply for a DSA when they apply for Student Finance

Please see the DSAs Website for full details.

Funding for EU & International Disabled Students

You may be entitled to support from your home Education Department and should make enquiries about what’s available before you come to university.

We would be delighted to answer any questions you have about how we can support your studies at Bath Spa University.
