What is the Peer Mentor Scheme?
Bath Spa University Peer Mentors are current student volunteers who are fully trained to provide informal support to first year students and help them adapt to university life. Peer Mentors are well placed to help other students as they know what it’s really like being a student at BSU.
From September 2014 our aim is to match Peer Mentors with a small group of Year 1 students (mentees) from their own course. We would also like to recruit international students who would be interested in mentoring Year 1 international students on the same course or from the same department. We are also keen to hear from students who would be interested in supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
A Peer Mentor will be
- A friendly face for new students
- Keen to help new first year students settle in to their new environment
- Willing to answer questions or direct students to the most appropriate source of advice
- Available to meet with student mentees from time to time as well as providing support by email.
All new first year students starting at Bath Spa University will be paired with a Peer Mentor before they arrive. Your Peer Mentor will be in touch with you a few weeks before the start of the academic year by email, to say hello and introduce themselves.
We are recruiting for new Peer Mentors for the 2014/15 academic year now. You can download more information about the role and an application form from the link below.
