Initial Teacher Education Events
The University regularly hold Initial Teacher Education events for those wanting to find out more about becoming a teacher and the full range of PGCE programmes on offer. Our events give you an opportunity to discover what's involved, the qualifications you need, the prospects you have and the financial support you will get.
- PGCE drop-in events: The PGCE open evenings and open mornings provide an informal way to find out more about becoming a teacher and the full range of PGCE programmes on offer. Run as a drop-in session you can visit at any time during the event.
- Saturday 13 April 2013 – Hilton Hotel, Bath, 10:00h to 12:00h
- Secondary PGCE Open Evening: The secondary PGCE open evening provides an informal way to find out more about becoming a teacher and the secondary subjects on offer. This event is open to all and you will find us ready with all the answers.
- Tuesday 21 May 2013 – Bath Spa University 17:00h to 19:00h
- Taster Courses: A free taster course gives you an opportunity to find out whether teaching is the right career for you. You will learn about becoming a teacher, spend a day in a school and benefit from practical advice and guidance on your next steps. Click on the event date to register.
- 10 - 12 June 2013 - Taster course for men considering Primary and Early Years teaching
- Open Days: You can find out about our PGCE programmes at our main Open Days. You will have an opportunity to have a look around the Newton Park campus and speak to staff from the Primary and Early Years and Secondary programmes. The open day runs from 9am to 4pm and the PGCE talk will be at 11am. Click on the event dates below to register:
- Saturday 1 June 2013 - Bath Spa University, Newton Park Campus
- Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course Open Evening: If you are interested in teaching Maths, Physics or Modern Languages, but you feel you need to boost your subject knowledge first then you could complete a subject knowledge enhancement course. They are designed for graduates who may not necessarily have a degree in the subject they wish to teach. Find out more at our enhancement course open evening - click on the event date to register.

PGCE Drop-In Events Frequently Asked Questions
The PGCE open evenings and drop-in sessions are for anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher. They provide a completely informal way to discover what’s involved, the qualifications you need, the prospects you have and the financial support you will get. Staff will be on hand to talk to you about the PGCE programmes we offer.
- Q:Do I have to book?
- A: Yes, please complete a simple registration form if you are interested in becoming a teacher or would like to find out more about what is involved.
- Q:How do I book a place at the event?
- A: You can either book online, or by emailing opendays@bathspa.ac.uk.
- Q:Can I bring other people with me?
- A: Yes, friends and family are welcome to come with you to our PGCE events. We would ask that you bring no more than 2 extra people with you unless they are also interested in becoming a teacher.
- Q:I have children, can I bring them with me?
- A: Yes, we recognise that some people have other commitments, such as child care, and therefore you are welcome to bring children with you. However, please keep them with you at all times.
- Q:Will I be able to meet with academic staff?
- A: There will be various members of the PGCE teaching staff at these events who will be available to answer your questions.
- Q:I can’t make it to the next PGCE event, will there be any others during the year?
- A: Yes – we run several PGCE events during the year, please visit the website for details of the next events.
- Q: I'm not able to come to any of the PGCE events, can I still visit the University?
- A: Yes - although we would recommend that you try and come to a PGCE event, we have an open campus policy, and you can visit us on a day suited to you.
- Q: Is there parking at Bath Spa?
- A: Parking is free on the Newton Park Campus, however, all cars must display a valid parking permit. You can pick up a permit from the Security Lodge situated at the main entrance of the campus. Please ensure that you park correctly as per the instructions displayed around the campus. If you possess a Blue Badge for parking please ensure that it is displayed prominently.
- Q:How do I find Bath Spa?
- A: Please visit our area map and directions page. This includes information on getting here by road, train, coach and air.
- Q:I need to stay overnight, where do I find information on hotels and guest houses in Bath?
